Ok... Im away, but I cant help teaching. Last week we talked about breaking the cycle of sin in our lives. Just because something is in your past or in your familys past doesnt mean it has to be in your present or future. Pastor Josh mentioned the rebellion of Korah in the wilderness. He gathered supporters to rise up against Moses and Aaron because although he was a fellow descendant of Levi (Like Moses and Aaron) his family was not called to some of the special duties that The Levites and Priests were called to and he felt slighted. In a long turn of events (you can read in numbers) Korah rises up in rebellion and he and all that followed after him were swallowed up by the earth as a great chasm opened up and they went alive down to the pit; that is sheol (the grave). We get confirmation in Numbers 26:11 that Korahs sons did NOT die with him. They did not share the rebellious spirit of their father. They became great leaders of worship in the temple and in fact, they wrote several Psalms. One of the ones they wrote (I simply googled a list right now and literally gasped as I read the number of a familiar one) was Psalm 88 which is read in the sacred pit where Jesus was kept over night in the holding cells beneath Caiaphas home while he awaited crucifixion. Psalm 88 so painfully describes what Christ was going through... the darkness is my closest friend. We read this together with our group in Jerusalem as Kara and I were there in March. What just stuck me all the more is that THEY, the sons of Korah WROTE these words in verse 4... I am numbered with those who go down to the pit. I was so stunned I had to write this. I am numbered with... My father and his people... My family members who rose up with him... The people he riled up... Your past and your familys past or reputation doesnt have to be your own. Break the chain like Korahs sons. Dont rebel... You can be like Korahs sons who in Psalm 85 say Restore us oh God, our savior... Show us your mercy, Oh Lord by giving us your salvation.... Ok. I feel like I got some teaching out. :) If I didnt have this computer I wouldve had to tell that to strangers in CVS tonight. lol. God Bless. Need a song? Break every chain... Break them Lord. https://youtube/watch?v=-pD2zIuiC2g
