Ok folks, going to be very clear right now. To our newer members, I rarely get like this so please forgive me this one time. Our adoptable kitties are in foster homes. I do not know of a single foster based adoption program that gives the names/addresses of their foster homes to anyone for any reason. SCSCS certainly wont. Ever. At this time, our life care unadoptable kitties are housed in a remote location. The nearest neighbors are the equivelent of about 3 city blocks away. There is no security system and no person on site, with the exception of volunteers (including but not exclusively my own family members) who go in daily to feed, medicate, play with, cuddle, and clean up after the cats. Each and every one of our volunteers and foster homes has passed a background check at SCSCS expense. A current one is on file even for my own family members, because they are not exempt from our policy. There is even a current one FOR ME on file, because I also am not exempt from policy. Every person who is given the exact location of our life care facility must have a background check first. Every single person. And honestly, with us paying for it, why would anyone care if they have nothing to hide? After were moved, the kitties will have at least one person on site with them at all times. Our volunteers and fosters will still have background checks. The big difference will be that someone will be with the kitties 24/7. We will have a security system on site. In other words the kitties will be safer. Since theyll be safer, well be able to open our doors for occassional visitors. We still wont be a public sanctuary because the property will also be my familys home, but pre-arranged guests will be welcome. Why so cautious? Anyone active in rescue has seen rescues burned to the ground, broken into and animals turned loose or harmed, animals poisoned. There are MANY horrible people in this world. Having sick kitties also makes us a target for those who feel diseased animals should always be killed. Weve already been threatened by 2 separate people, both publicly. Weve already had a call made to Humane Society with vicious and malicious lies. Why would I put the cats at risk? I wont. Ever. Not for anyone.
