Ok guys, so I just saw a news report entitled “The Great Leggings War”. It was all about how there is this “HUGE debate” in the country over whether women should wear leggings as pants or not. I admit, my first thought was 1) “What the heck are leggings?” and then (having been shown an example) 2) “This is a spoof, right? I mean, this can’t really be a thing, can it?” Turns out that; Yes, it really is a thing. People really are spending a portion of the very limited time that they are granted to breathe air and live actually debating this! So, of course my third question became; “WHY!?!?!?!?!” Quickly followed by; “Who am I (or you, or we) to judge what other people wear?” Do you know what most people in the South who don’t attend church services give as the #1 reason why they don’t? Clothes. “People will judge me by the way I dress.” True story. Look it up. Seriously, who are we to think that we have a right to judge people’s clothing and enforce our standards on what they should or should not wear? Who made me, or any of us, the ultimate authority on telling people how to dress? I can decide how I dress. I can have opinions on things I enjoy seeing on others. But I can’t presume to have the power to dictate what is right or wrong for other people to wear. And good lord, to actually take the time to sit around and debate the matter? Seriously? Look, I’m a critical, cynical person. WAY too critical. I shoot my mouth off on hairstyles, and clothes, and attitudes, and plastic surgery, and a million other things; and all it does is make me look like a jerk, and make other people feel bad. Truth is, every moment that I spend doing something like this, is a moment that I have traded the opportunity to support, encourage, motivate, love, lift up, and be helpful to another person, in favor of sitting in judgment of them instead. We all face enough struggles in life without having to deal with the negativity and judgment of others, especially about something as inconsequential as clothing.
