Ok…let me TRY to remember everything that has happened since my last real post… Sunday – we visited 3 churches (1 in the morning, 2 at night) to promote The Gift & sell tickets. I (Rebekah) had the privilege of singing with an elite group of singers from Casa Amarela church at each service. It was so cool! Jairo and Lucas spoke about our mission here and we sold over $1,000 worth of tickets! Praise God! (Currently our Saturday night performance is just about sold out…so so grateful to the Lord for so many tickets being sold! Each ticket is a life that could be changed by Scripture coming to life through The Gift & the power of Jesus)! Sunday night was when I crashed, we had also had a dance rehearsal mid-afternoon and the full first week in Brazil proved to be too much for my immune system (despite the 8 vitamins I have been taking daily for over a month to prepare for the trip!!!) Monday I was in my “sick room” all day – Tom worked on costumes with the crafty team in the morning and then had a meeting with the lighting man in the afternoon. I managed to make it to rehearsal in the evening where I sat and watched as Emanuel orchestrated the dance portion of the rehearsal. Thank the Lord for calling him to partner with us in this project! We would have made no progress on dance this week if it weren’t for him. Acting rehearsals went well in the other room with Tom, Jairo & others. Tuesday – “sick room” for me again… Tom worked with our “Jesus” understudy, Thyago, for a few hours because our main “Jesus” has to be at his sister’s wedding during our first performance. Thyago is looking to come to the USA to study next year and will likely be staying in the Kawiecki household! After lunch, Tom, Jairo & the rest of the team went to visit the theater because the orchestra pit was broken! They had to go to see what they could do with the orchestra without a pit and to get a better idea of blocking and staging at the theater. Thankfully it sounds like we can get the pit fixed, or at least usable in time for the show. Tuesday night after a shower I perked up again and made it to dance rehearsal! Once again I sat & Emanuel was in charge. Meanwhile Lucas ran a choir rehearsal downstairs and Tom worked with some actors in another room. Much progress in spite of Satan’s attempts to knock us down! Wednesday – I was up early, in pain and I knew I needed to get to a doctor! After calling insurance companies and friends to recommend a hospital, I spent a few hours in the ER Wednesday afternoon. Thank the Lord for Jairo and his willingness to stay with me the whole time and translate/take care of me. Doctors confirmed it was just viral and gave me some meds to help and I’m happy to report I am feeling MUCH better today! Meanwhile…Tom analyzed the Gift video from home, moment by moment, and wrote pages and pages of notes of what we still needed to get and do here in Brazil. He spent hours watching the video and after watching he shared with us some of his thoughts on our production back home: “Boy, I never really studied and analyzed the finished American project, but boy was I impressed with the acting! Particularly Craig. I was blown away by his performance and the intricate inflections in his voice and facial expressions. And the lovely emotional expression of the entire ensemble! I developed a new appreciation for the beautiful talent we have back home at Valley! I was blown away. I’d never studied it in such a way before and I was moved.” - Tom Today – I was able to sleep in to continue the healing process. Thank you God (& friends for letting me sleep)! Something I am not good at is taking enough time for myself to stay healthy! I tend to push myself over the limit ☹ While I was resting, Tom & Jairo were being interviewed on a local Recife Christian Radio station about The Gift! SO COOL! I think there is another station that wants to interview us next week also. After the radio, Tom went downtown shopping for more props for the show. He came back with many necessary items including a gorgeous red vase/pot thing for one of the Wise Men gifts! Now we are all back to work! I’m working on some dance things and posting here. Lucas is at work on the computer. Samuel is writing a “blow-by-blow” list for the cast so they know what happens when (thank God for him – he has been a huge blessing)! Tom is organizing costumes and everything is moving forward! Thank the Lord ☺ It’s so exciting to see things coming together and all the little ways God is working! Hope to be back to a short daily post again instead of these monster postings! Thank you all again and again for your prayers, we need ‘em!
