Ok, so there seems to be a bit of chatter about the ASIN awards - TopicsExpress

Ok, so there seems to be a bit of chatter about the ASIN awards and their validity. I have been very fortunate to have been awarded Best Actor in 2011 and 2013, I was also very fortunate to receive a Certificate of Highest Achievement - Members Choice in 2012, so I feel I can safely say that I think I have the credentials to make this statement. The chatter seems to be about the awards and how valid they are, more than a few people are stating their views that it is nothing more that a popularity contest. But I see it a lot more than that, I see it as a networking group that is trying to endorse and celebrate independent film makers on their projects that they and their fellow film makers are committed to. I know the heart of both Lynne Collins Dalrymple and Brenda Papworth who run ASIN and can unequivocally state that these ladies have nothing but passion for the film industry and try their absolute best to use their resource ( ASIN ) for the benefit of us all. So are the awards a popularity contest - well if you want to look at it that way, well yes they are - but they are voted by members of the group, again I see it as a massive positive endorsement from your fellow independent film makers - a Stand up and cheer each other on kind of deal - I find this so vitally important as like it or not, we dont actually have a film industry in Queensland - we are mostly a TVC and the odd occasional Hollywood blockbuster society - that is why we as independents are so important, as todays independent may well just be tomorrows Spielberg etc Its for this reason that I will continue to support ASIN and any other group, networking night or person that continues to give and promote our great love of Film and TV. I feel very honoured that I have been cheered on by my fellow film makers and my 3 awards are on display for all to see whoever comes to my home. PS. The Logies which celebrate our film and mostly TV industry are also based upon the popularity vote by the readers of TV Week, yet it is accepted as a rule of thumb by the public as a nod to endorse their favourite on screen characters ( again a pat on the back, saying that you are doing a great job
