Okay Lets look at my first Infusion day. When you first arrive - TopicsExpress

Okay Lets look at my first Infusion day. When you first arrive you get to sign in, whip out your insurance card and you debit card for your co-pay, then head into the corridor to weight yourself, check in with the staff to see which group chair/nurse grouping you will be in for the next 2-4 hours. After you nurse has checked you BP, pulse, asked your weight (which you have been repeating for the past 5 minutes over & over), she hands you a form with the title of DISTRESS MANAGEMENT You must mark your distress between 1-10, & answer yes or no to multiple questions within the following groups: Practical Problems, Family Problems, Emotional Problems, Spiritual/Religious Concerns, & Physical Problems. Today so as not to bore anyone we will start with PRACTICAL PROBLEMS: Child Care-No, Housing-No, Insurance/Financial-No, Transportation-No, Work/School-No, Treatment Decisions-No. Well I guess I should have marked yes on the Insurance/Financial one because half way through my infusion, the lovely little lady from the financial office comes back and says Mrs. Briggs there seems to be a problem with your insurance. BC/BS says it was cancelled on the 17th of May. I then look at this lovely lady and say Well we are on the Cobra plan as my husband had to take long term disability on the 1st of May, but I have personally sent the checks for May and June in the amounts of $1,800.00 each so I had better have insurance. Im not saying that this lovely financial lady shouldnt be checking my insurance, but to ask me about it in the middle of an infusion is something I will be talking with my Oncologist about. I have always found humor in every situation, sometimes it takes me a day or two but it always bubbles up. This morning seems to be better than yesterday. Thank you to who ever created the first rice-heat sock, because I have 6 that are my best friends right now that I made earlier this spring and had not given them to anyone!!! I just didnt know I would be needing them. Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers. An Overcomer in the making
