Okay, here is the summary of the discussion over on the other page. I asked if there was any temperament testing going on, because I had heard and read that there wasnt, and I had read that qualified trainers had offered to help, but that the offer had been declined. Being the type of gal who wants to have a lot of information before forming an opinion, I thought I would ask on the lost and found page, because it seems like the best place on FB to find out information about what happens there from day to day. Two people who volunteer at the pound answered that there was indeed temperament testing going on. I asked if it was SAFER testing, and the answer to that was unclear. I was assured that the dog warden has experience and training in temperament testing, and that those volunteers trusted his evaluation. One volunteer stated that she felt that the SAFER test wasnt always accurate because of the fear/anxiety that the dogs in the pound experience; which I completely agree with. It sounds like the dog warden does test a dog more than once, if he feels that the circumstances made the test inaccurate. Which I also think is very good. All of that makes it more surprising that no consideration is given to the temperament of pit bull type/looking dogs...since, clearly, temperament is something that the dog warden can evaluate.
