Okay here it is my How to build a shelf video. Shelves and cabinets all have the same steps to building and if you follow these steps your projects will be square and plum every time. Remember lowes will cut the wood for you and then you just have to assemble. First start off by cutting your 2 sides to your shelf the same size. I cut these 80 inches cause they are for a closet Im building for a customer. Once you have your side pieces cut to the measurements you want cut your shelves as wide as you want remember to take an inch and a half away to get the width you want cause your adding 3/4 on each side. For example if you want your shelf to be 18 inches cut the shelves at 16 1/2 so when you put the sides you get 18 inches.after you have everything cut your ready to assemble. on one of the side pieces space out the shelves to the space you want. Im building a shoe rack so I draw my first line at 20 inches and then 15 for each shelf (20,35,50,65,80) once you have your pencil marks then join the two side pieces next to each other and make a pencil mark on other side. Once this is done grab your speed square and make a line in each mark. Then your ready to start nailing. I cut two 1x4 boards the same length as your shelves so bottom shelf wont be on ground. Take your 1x4 and place it flush in front of bottom and draw a line this will be where you put the 1x4 to give it a toe kick look. Start placing your shelves on top of the line you mark make sure to place them all on top of line or they will not be equal. Nail away each shelf on top of the line until your done. Now you have a shelf. You can add a 1x2 facial in front to make it look nicer or to have it ready for a cabinet door. Thanks for watching my video and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
