Okay, heres an interesting short story: Yesterday, I posted a rap song endorsing Harlem Representative Charlie Rangel for re-election and officially acknowledged by the Rangel Campaign. If you didnt know by now, Charlie is my man, pots and pans. The song was biographical in nature and I thought the beat was kinda dope. (listen below) As always, I said so. But then, as with many posts, I had second thoughts. Thought it was a stupid post and erased it. So yesterday I was in the REAL WORLD helping my man Charlies campaign to win love in the streets of Harlem again, in a primary (cause why not?). A dude walks up to me for absolutely NO reason whatsoever, and announces that hes the one who made the song, along with his boys. He had no idea I had heard it less than 24 hours before. Then,as if that werent impressive enough, he tells me that his aim is to mix hip hop with politics and package it in a way that I would be an asshole to reveal to everyone on facebook right now. But trust me, its brilliant. AND totally unique. AND marketable. Then, he asks for my number. The truth is, that Im far from powerful in any industry anybody would deem important. But Im thinking that the only thing that surpasses the brilliance of this idea, was the intelligence involved in communicating with a guy like me, about it. A guy willing to put his balls on the table. (sorry ladies. Those words say it best). I ran into him again, later in the day. He was with his boys. and boy was I tired of campaigning by then... Still, I told them about the coverage I saw about them on huge websites like Buzzfeed, the NY Daily News, and Politico. I told them that they need to save every accolade, in order to create a powerful brand. And I felt great telling it to the youth. They listened intently, before they had to go to a rehearsal. I think these kids are gonna do great things. What a coincidence, huh? I just listened to that song (cause I felt compelled to), 24 hours ago. Then this guy just comes up to me and starts talking about, what I think, is a truly lucrative idea. What will happen tomorrow?
