Okay, many times people are ridiculed and give me this lifeless disgusting look of shock when I say I havent read a book or watched a movie that they deem common knowledge. Fact is I love to keep up with the times and Lord knows I crave all the knowledge I can get. But in case youre curious, this is why I do not read a lot and watch so many movies, contrary to majority assumption and expectations. I am of the conviction, that has led me to a safe conclusion that much as books will without a doubt improve your vocabulary and the right ones perhaps elevate your intelligence quotient, the more you read of other peoples thoughts and imaginations, you subconsciously and unwittingly diminish your capacity for authentic creativity. If and when I can, I for one, prefer and like to experience and witness things, not just watch or read about them. I rather be told a good story ten times than be told a hundred fake stories. Whenever I land on a good one, be it academic or otherwise; I can read the same book three or four times over before I lay it down or lend it out. Same goes for a nice film. It is for this reason that I barely touch fictitious publications or go out of my way to stuff my mental archives with novels and movies, simply because everyone else has watched/read them. Save for a few classics, some sci-fi, animations and recommended series n titles by people whose taste I trust. I am more into history, true stories and biographies. Im convinced, that those put neither limit nor form to your imagination and self expression. So pardon me if I walk out on you during a Vampire Diaries conversation or stay mute during some heated Kardashian debate or series related jazz. Understand my stand.
