Okay, the Facebook cursor is blinking next to Whats on your mind? I usually ignore it, but I have nothing better to do, so here goes -- My Day -- It was Monday morning, so it was Staff Meeting, lots of good information and nice to hear what everybody else is doing. Low point for that was the crime reports from across the County, high point was listening to the banter and rapport between some very fine people I work with. Early afternoon I was in court making sure a couple of inmates were getting the psychiatric help they needed. Later in afternoon I had to go through several coroners reports, depressing and not a task I would recommend to anyone, but it is my job, so... . I came home and went through the backyard where Zoe, the German Shepherd, jumped up and tried to hug me. Her hugs are rather awkward, but her spirit is right on. The chickens were out in their yard, pecking the remains of the grape vines I harvested yesterday. Olga, my wife, came home from her engineering task up north. Olga did a much better job hugging me than Zoe had. My son, Nicholas, was at the dinner table, delving into Common Core 7th Grade Math. I have not actually seen my daughter, Anna Ekaterina Ready, this evening, but I did see her Facebook post from her bedroom announcing she has joined a rock band. I need to investigate that later on. Olga cooked the pizza perfectly and everyone except to new rock band member ate pizza and watched the Emmys together. I took a bit of pleasure in seeing the few TV shows I watch win some awards. The in Memoriam always touches me. I was in law school in Colorado when Robin Williams started out in Mork and Mindy which was set in Boulder, CO, so I have always felt a connection to him. I really appreciated Good Morning Viet Nam and What Dreams May Come, and... well everything he did. Robin will be missed. Before I was lured into this colloquy by that cursor, I spent a few minutes watching dusk disappear over California. The drought has pretty much killed my lawn, as I have stopped regular watering like a good eco-citizen. The toads are croaking. I think they are toads, maybe frogs. Where do frogs live in a dry valley? Zoe does not like the yippy terrier next door. Neither do I, so I let her bark a bit. Nicholas has finished 7th grade math and is reading CNN headlines to his mother. NIcholas shows a healthy interest in world affairs for a 7th grader. The white cat, Hu-an, is laying belly up on the bookshelf next to the computer monitor. The coroners reports and psych consults are a distant memory. Life is good. Lets go see if there is any pizza left. What is on your mind?
