Old Lyons Reunion Sadly I did not attend but followed planning and the event itself closely. I believe Tommys position is correct. Every 5 years would be more effective. Most of the interest in this event would diminish substantially after the second or third year. The recent reunion was professionally planned and executed and beyond successful. Could not have been better. To preserve this meaningful community event should be a top priority and Tommys recommendations would go a long way in accomplishing this. Before I respond as a member of last years committee, I would like to have your input. I have heard varying opinions - some, like Tommy, feel that having a reunion every year will detract from the excitement and will not be well attended. Others feel that it is a great idea...especially as we continue to mature I will say that it is a LOT OF WORK...however, the groundwork has been done and future committees simply need to tweak and improve but will not have to reinvent the wheel. Personally, I do not believe that we would have as many attendees as last year (600+) but Im not sure that is a bad thing. We initially felt in the early planning stages that we would have about 300 last year, which is much more manageable. We would have had a disaster if the weatherman had been correct in his forecast the week prior to the 2013 event. I look forward to receiving your thoughts and will communicate them to the committee for the class of 1962. Naturally, we could move forward regardless of Tommys involvement. Thanks for responding...mbw Mary Beth Whitfield 912-977-3791 ----- Original Message ----- From: Tom Sasser To: Julie Martin ; duke30458@yahoo ; Barbara Gintz ; Barbara Martin ; Jeanette Beard ; Mary Beth Whitfield ; Mary Lou Poole ; Pam Henderson ; Dickie Welch ; Sandy Mobley ; Bobbie Poole ; Joyce Lee ; Bonnie Brett ; Bonnie Hardman ; Glenda Welborn ; Linda Cook ; Ann Bean ; Marion Carter ; Della Martin Sent: Wednesday, April 02, 2014 9:39 AM Subject: Old Lions Reunion Folks, I will start by saying that the Old Lions Reunion of last November was most likely the best and neatest idea developed and implemented that has ever been done by “Old” Bradwell Alumni. Everyone who attended this event are so grateful to those so responsible for making this great event happen. The proposed idea during this event was to continue and do this again this year and that the Class of 64 should take the lead. I was “elected” to chair this and have given consideration thought to this for the past several months. I am very leery about moving forward with doing this on an annual basis. As with class reunions, I am not sure this is an event for every year. It is an event that should be held with a longer interval between gatherings. I think having the event each year will take away from the excitement that would be generated say every five years. I have seen this same thing happen with participation at other annual events such as University Homecomings, neighborhood outings, and just old friends getting together. This could lead to smaller and smaller crowds to a point that a lot of work is done for a very small group and the cost could very well exceed the revenues. As all know, the margin is very small. So, if there are any overruns or negative balance, who would be the responsible? I respectively bow out of trying to move this forward this year for the above mentioned reason and to a lesser extent, being 3 ½ hours away is not conducive to me being in a viable location to make this happen. I would ask the group to seriously consider making this a five year event for those that want to continue. I think the core group should stay together and continue to plan, but plan for a second reunion, say 2018. I know we are getting older, but time flies. Representatives from classes 64-68 can be “recruited to help plan this event. I do not look at this as a setback, but a way to keep it successfully going and keep the excitement of the Old Lions Alumni. Tommy W.
