On Campus Opportunities for Post-Bacc and Graduate Students: Office of Professional Development Upcoming Events & Workshops Wednesday, Nov. 26 to Friday, Dec. 12, 2014 In the next two weeks, the Office of Professional Development will offer several workshops and informational sessions designed to promote the success of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the areas of: ? Grants & Fellowships ? Career Preparation ? Teaching Grants & Fellowships Tuesday, December 2nd - 4:30-5:30pm 538 Goodell Info Session: Fulbright Awards Ranking among the most prestigious awards given to graduate students, Fulbright Fellowships support a wide array of international research and study. Although the Fulbright application review process is highly selective, UMass graduate students have recently fared extremely well in this competition. Last year, ALL eight UMass graduate students who applied for Fulbright funding received fellowships! This informational session will detail how UMass graduate students can begin to position themselves for success in the 2015 Fulbright competition. A panel of speakers with extensive knowledge of the Fulbright competition will describe the various Fulbright programs, provide an overview of the application process, and discuss the timetable for submission. Panelists include Prof. David Mednicoff, a Fulbright scholar and Director of Middle Eastern Studies; Kathryn Julian, a PhD candidate in History and Fulbright student! in Germany last year; and John Dickson, an advisor in the UMass Office of National Scholarship Advisement. Pre-registration is requested. Tuesday, December 9th - 12:00-1:30pm 107 Bartlett Fellowship Opportunities for Graduate Students of Color A variety of fellowship programs have been developed to support graduate students of color, and this information session will highlight fellowship opportunities with January and February deadlines. A panel featuring former fellowship recipients will share tips for crafting a competitive proposal and meeting submission deadlines. Co-sponsored by the Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR). Pizza will be provided and pre-registration is requested. Friday, December 12th - 10:00-11:00am (Optional Part II Begins at 11:00) N400 Integrated Learning Center (ILC, 4th Floor) NSF Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant Workshop Graduate students from many disciplines are eligible to apply for National Science Foundation Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants (DDRIG), which award up to $20,000 to support doctoral dissertation research. This session will support students interested in applying for submissions to the Social, Behavioral & Economic Sciences (SBE) Directorate with upcoming deadlines in the January-February timeframe. Part I will focus on creating a Data Management Plan and an optional Part II session invites students with working drafts to participate in a peer and faculty review session. Graduate students may participate in one or both parts and international students are welcome. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
