On January 7, 2015, Rashad made massive headlines when she broke her silence on the hugely controversial Bill Cosby scandal, forcefully defending her former Cosby Show husband and expressing sharp contempt with his numerous female rape accusers. Rashad remarked, Forget these women and expressed strong suspicions of conspiracy among them. When informed of Janice Dickinson and Beverly Johnsons rape claims, Rashad remarked Oh please! Rashad stated that she believed Bill is to proud to defend himself and stated What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it’s orchestrated. I don’t know why or who’s doing it, but it’s the legacy. And it’s a legacy that is so important to the culture. Someone is determined to keep Bill Cosby off TV. And it’s worked. All his contracts have been cancelled.”[10][11] [12] Gloria Allred, who has come under a great deal of fire for her own involvement in the Bill Cosby scandal and who is representing his accusers, has responded by threatening Rashad, stating that shed be getting her for her remarks on the matter. Two of the female accusers reproached Rashad for her remarks as well. Over Twitter, Judd Apatow has accused Rashad of only being concerned about her residual checks from the Cosby Show. Also on Twitter, Tom Arnold and Norm MacDonald expressed disapproval with Rashads stance on the scandal
