On May 29, we removed our video “Is CrossFit Safe?”. In the segment, we alleged there were 6,000 CrossFit gyms, and that a U.S. Army study found a 300-400% increase in rhabdomyolysis when using the extreme conditioning program. We further stated the National Strength and Conditioning Association did not accredit CrossFit, and the U.S. Army expressed ambivalence regarding CrossFit’s program. We wish to correct and clarify our statements. There are 10,000 CrossFit gyms not 6,000. The U.S. Army did not presume to what extent extreme conditioning programs contributed to the increase in rhabdomyolysis, and although the U.S. Army has not officially adopted CrossFit’s program, it did not express ambivalence as to its effectiveness. Finally, the NSCA is not an accrediting body, and thus cannot grant accreditation.
