On Saturday, December 6, 2014, shortly after 3:00 AM, an Officer attempted to stop a white Nissan Maxima which did not have any license plate(s) displayed near Southgate Road and Nevada Avenue. Although the driver fled the initial traffic stop, the vehicle was later discovered at the intersection of Wahsatch Avenue and Cimarron Street. The driver was seen running along the railroad tracks to the east into a heavily wooded area. K-9 Officer Kelly was called out to the scene and deployed canine Broc upon arrival. After a short search, the canine team located the suspect hiding under a vehicle near the 400 block of East Costilla Street. Canine Broc contacted the suspect on the upper left arm. The suspect punched canine Broc one time on the left side of his face during the arrest process. Officer Kelly kept the suspect from striking canine Broc any further and he was arrested without further incident. Investigation revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen. The suspect was arrested for Theft involving the vehicle along with possessing burglary tools from the items left behind in the car and cruelty to animals.
