On September 29th, 2009 - 5 years ago today - I received a phone call from Dr. Sabah Hamad telling me that I had Breast Cancer. I was supposed to have gotten the news earlier that day at a morning appointment, but the results werent in, so they sent me home. She called while I was at a farewell open house with many friends from church since we were moving from Morrisville to Fuquay Varina. It was odd, that these were the first people to learn about my diagnosis. Not my husband, or my children, my mom or sisters or even my best friend. But I will never, ever forget the love that surrounded me that day. I was encircled with such caring women. You know who you are. You were there for me also in the weeks and months that followed, even though I moved 4 towns and 30 minutes away. You will forever be in my heart. Here I am now, free from Breast Cancer and as of today the chances of it recurring have dropped from 70% to less than 20%. This is a wonderful blessing.
