On This Day: African American Life in Detroit in 1975: John W. Roxborough, former manager of world heavyweight boxer Joe Louis, is laid to rest at St. Matthew-St. Joseph Episcopal Church. He was 83. On Dec. 15, 1941 a jury found former mayor Richard Reading, Roxborough and 20 others guilty of participating in a $10 million a year numbers gambling racket. Roxborough was released from Jackson Prison on Oct. 4, 1946.
