On Thursday, American Atheists will go to federal - TopicsExpress

On Thursday, American Atheists will go to federal court and take the next step toward ending the religious discrimination that has been written into our nations tax code. The IRS grants tax-exempt status to churches, other houses of worship, and religious nonprofits almost automatically. Secular groups, however, face a lengthy application process, must pay a fee (which can be as high as $850), and are required to file a Form 990 every year. This case is not about attacking religion; it is about ensuring equal protection for all Americans, regardless of their religious beliefs. Taking on the special treatment of religion at the IRS is a massive fight but it is one were ready for. Please make a tax-deductible donation today and your gift will be doubled! Weve established a $100,000 Fair Taxation Legal Fund to ensure that we have the resources we need to carry this fight all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. Thursday will be the first time we bring this case to court, but it almost certainly wont be the last. This case boils down to one central fact: The IRS treats your organization better if you profess belief in a supernatural deity. Its time for us to take a stand and put an end to this practice of religious discrimination. Show your support and make a tax-deductible donation to our Fair Taxation Legal Fund today and double your impact. Your generosity makes cases like this, and all of our work, possible. Thank you for your help. David Silverman President PS: We will be rallying in support of equal rights at the Eastern District of Kentuckys Courthouse in Covington, Kentucky during oral arguments. Keep an eye out for more details about the rally shortly. American Atheists, Inc. PO Box 158 Cranford, NJ 07016 phone 908.276.7300 | fax 908.276.7402 atheists.org Privacy Policy | Email Preferences
