On our first day of post-grad class, on a subject entitled Labor & Democracy, my professor asked me to summarize Rerum Novarum during graded oral recitations. It was an encyclical which he expected us to read overnight as if we had the study habits of his previous students in Harvard Law. My response was nganga and on that first day of class, my uno dream died. Today, Im doing an advanced reading of Lumen Fidei. Not really sure if its ever going to be discussed anywhere but Im loving it. “Faith also helps us to devise models of development which are based not simply on utility and profit, but consider creation as a gift for which we are all indebted; it teaches us to create just forms of government, in the realization that authority comes from God and is meant for the service of the common good. Faith likewise offers the possibility of forgiveness, which so often demands time and effort, patience and commitment.
