On the 26th October 2013, the slopes at the base of the Black Mountains in Brecon will play host to a very special occasion. For the 46th consecutive year, the Original Mountain Marathon will be providing the opportunity for people to escape into a two day personal challenge against the elements, terrain, competitors and your own boundaries. This year is particularly special as Jen Longbottom is retiring after 30 years of organising the event and leading our community all over the UK in the pursuit of wilderness and new challenges. Roger Smith and his planning team have spent a lot of time over the last few weeks making final adjustments to the courses and double checking crossing points and have confirmed that we have a fantastic area with great terrain for running. There are lots of interesting navigation choices to make and the routes available have some great views – cloud levels permitting. We have 8 different courses on offer to cater for all abilities and are more than happy to give advice if required as to the best course for you. The full details of the courses can be found at theomm/event-series/omm/omm-2012 in brief there are four linear courses, three score courses and a very interesting hybrid between the two (C Course). The OMM Howgills saw competitors from the age of 16 to 70 from 14 different countries enjoy a stunning day on Saturday with a more challenging Sunday on what is the oldest and still the largest Mountain Marathon of it’s kind in the world. Entries are £110 per two person team until the 31st July (theomm/event-series/omm/omm2013/omm-2013-entry) after which there is an extra £10 administration fee as the start list will have already been produced. It would be a pleasure to have you join us for the weekend, on what promises to be another blue ribbon OMM.
