On the issue of NJC vs River State What is the matter with NJC? There is a subsisting court judgement that the State Governor can appoint a Chief Judge based on the JSC(Rivers State Judicial Service Commission) and not NJCs recommendation of Justice Daisy Okocha. Based on the JSCs recommendation of Justice Agumagu as the Rivers State Chief Judge and the Federal High Court Judgement, he was sworn in by Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. Counsel to the NJC, Jimoh Lasis (SAN) said that his clients will Appeal the judgment if they intend to proceed on the matter. However, rather than doing this NJC proceeded to suspend Justice Agumagu and directed that he should not be recognised as the Chief Judge of Rivers State. Why resort to self-help? Rivers State Government said Justice Daisy Okocha SHALL NEVER BECOME a Chief Judge in Rivers State! Now the battle line is drawn! Why cant NJC simply appeal the judgement? rather than rushing to suspend Justice Agumagu and thereby creating a debacle in the judiciary. If a body like NJC can disobey a court judgement, isnt that an invitation to anarchy?
