On this Sunday morning, NHC is issuing advisories on Hurricane Gonzalo, centered as of 8 a.m.EDT/AST over the northern Atlantic Ocean about 120 miles east of St. Johns, Newfoundland. Gonzalo is expected to become extratropical later today. Elsewhere, a low pressure system is expected to form over the Bay of Campeche or the southern Gulf of Mexico during the next day or two. Some gradual development of this system is possible after that time while it moves slowly east-northeastward. Also, a large non-tropical low is developing over the far eastern Atlantic Ocean about midway between the Azores Islands and the Canary Islands. This system could possibly acquire subtropical characteristics by the middle of the week while it moves westward to west-northwestward over relatively warm waters.
