On this day in music history: November 21, 1980 - Hi Infidelity, the ninth studio album by REO Speedwagon is released. Produced by Kevin Beamish, Kevin Cronin, Alan Gratzer, and Gary Richrath, it is recorded at Crystal Studios in Hollywood, CA and Kendun Recorders in Burbank, CA from March - October 1980. The ninth release from the veteran rock band from Champaign, IL will represent their critical and commercial high watermark. Having tasted major success for the first time just two years earlier with the album You Can Tune A Piano, But You Cant Tuna Fish, and the follow up Nine Lives, the band will come up with the perfect balance of hard rockers and power ballads that satisfy its loyal fanbase, and will win them a huge new audience. It will spin off four singles including Keep On Loving You (#1 Pop) and Take It On The Run (#5 Pop), both of which will become pop and rock radio staples. Hi Infidelity will spend fifteen weeks (non-consecutive) at number one on the Billboard Top 200, and is certified 9x Platinum in the US by the RIAA.
