One Minute Message 11/1/13 Devotional Thought: We relate to the fear of death and assume that was causing Jesus to be so burdened while in Gethsemane. He had marched steadily and determined to this moment knowing what was ahead. Rather than fear of the pain and agony of his death Jesus was burdened by the thought of bearing the sin of the world (2 Cor. 5:21), to the point of being tempted to turn from it. He knew he needed to “stay alert and be in prayer” (vs. 41). Following the example of Jesus we too will spend time with the Father in prayer seeking his comfort and strength when burdened with our own challenges: 5Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God! Psalm 43:5 Devotional Text: Matthew 26:36-38 (NLT) 36 Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, “Sit here while I go over there to pray.” 37 He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed. 38 He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” To read the entire One Year Bible chronological readings for today go to: oneyearbibleonline/oneyearweeklychrono.php --David
