One lesson I want to impart to my girl children, one I might have - TopicsExpress

One lesson I want to impart to my girl children, one I might have been too delayed to learn, partially from my own ignorance and also from imposed societal influence..even too late to impart to my already 21years and 16year old but still early for my two 9yr olds and my 2year old is that.... Life for the girl child should not have to be about external opinions. A girl child doesnot have to feel better and outstanding when she conforms to external opinions about beauty and expectations A girl child needs to read and be informed, she needs to view life with elevated lenses of knowledge and information. A girl child shouldnot have to live her entire life under the chains of ignorance which teaches her that for a woman to be accepted by society she has to be married or employed The girl child has to think beyond employment, she has to see so much of herself..she has to see herself not a blending part of a society but a force to influence the universe at large. By her talents or her abilities she has to know she is more than a daughter, a sister, a neighbor and merely an existance A girl child has to be concerned by more than gossip and competition for men, she has to be outstanding in her perception of self. Though naturally she will long for love and companionship but she has to know that love for self eliminates all possibilities of wasting time fighting for attention and recognition by a man..but that all the time in the world is given for the girl child to influence life with a force A girl child needs to know that one day when she becomes a mother, her own children cannot be bound by the same chains of poverty and lack of information that afflicted the previous generations of black women #to be continued.....
