One of my biggest pet peeves (ha - a pun) in animal rescue is the assumption that lost animals must have irresponsible owners and/or that they were mistreated/abused by their owner due to the found animals fearful reactions or behaviors. WRONG, wrong, and wrong. Animals not in familiar surroundings are already DEEPLY invested in fear behaviors from the moment they stepped away from their home. As well, please resist the urge to make assumptions that a found dog with medical issues has been neglected by their owner ... even just ONE day off their medications can result in a very sick dog, let alone dogs with knee/joint/hip injuries that are chronic. Note to self: We have no idea if a dog or cat is under the care of a vet and being properly cared for just by one day in a rescuers care. Ok - rant done. I highly recommend this website for information....
