One of my friends at school recently said when she saw a photo of my kitty, Oh, a Maine Coon! And I had to say, No, shes a Siberian Blue.. I wish she were on my FB because I have the perfect article that distinguishes between the two. She actually wasnt as far off as I had initially thought. They share some strong similarities. However, their breeds developed on opposite sides of the planet, and the Siberian cat had actual wildcat ancestors, whereas the Maine Coon is further removed from their wildcat ancestors and have more of a likelihood of having come from Angoras and Norwegian Forest Cats. I think Maine Coons might be a little bit bigger than Siberians, too. Siberians trace their ancestry back to 1000 AD. A very OLD breed..
