One of the first rules of politics is never allow a good crisis to go to waste, which is exactly what the administration has in mind with Ebola. The federal government and CDC have been desperately trying to convince the public that Ebola does not pose a serious threat and the situation is under control. The administration refuses to implement a travel ban to protect American citizens though across the globe countries are taking precautions and closing borders as a crucial step to ensure the safety of theirs. Why not implement a travel ban? This is because if the there a mass outbreak of Ebola in the United States the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will then have all the power it needs to enact “martial law.” By allowing Ebola to spread, citizens will beg for safety and they will accept martial law with open arms. This is strategy is one of Robert Greene’s 48 Laws of Power “Make other People come to you – use Bait if Necessary”
