One of the great things about being 7 years older that my brother Juan Zaida is that I can remember every single big event in his life. I can close my eyes and clearly remember the day he was born; when he started to learn how to read and write; I remember the face of the little girl he first liked :) and I even remember the scary day he got injured in swimming class. I remember the fear in his face when my parents told him we were moving to US. He didnt know how he would be able to perform well taking classes in a different language. However, I dont remember him ever complaining about school work, or classes being tough on him. I do remember him up late at night, almost every night, fighting to remember words for Spelling Bee contests and translating tons of words into Spanish to make sense of their meaning. I remember him taking every single hard class available out there. AP whatever, just mention it, he took it... and I feared for him at times and for his sanity. I even told him to take it slow and to sleep more and not take as many hard classes... and to chill that it was high school. But he would say: I love proving people wrong, there are plenty who dont believe in me I know I can do it if others can, so I will. And he did do it all. See, Im the older one and I really dont stop learning from my brother. Today I got his AP scholar diploma in the mail and I lived another of those wow moments. My brother is my inspiration and my motivation to be a better sister. This kiddo never ever ever gives up and Im so very proud to call him my little brother. I guess God knew the magic number for me to realize what an awesome little being you are was 7. Te amo hermanito del alma.
