One of the most anticipated events of the year took place at the weekend. Jimmy McMahon is a very popular President and this was clear judging by the large number of members who played throughout the weekend. The course was in immaculate condition after all the hard work our greenkeeping staff and volunteers put in. Just like Jimmy, the pin positions were fair. Instead the President let the weather determine the difficulty. Fortunately, everybody saw sunshine on Saturday, Sunday and most importantly the 9 hole playoff on Sunday evening. It was the top 15 to qualify. The scores ranged from 43pts right back to 35pts. 15 year old Alex Hanneffy, was the last to qualify on 35pts but shot lights out on the 3rd nine to finish in 3rd place overall. Spectators were treated to some quality golf and even better, a nail biting finish. 9 holes just weren’t enough for 2 golfers though. Pat McArdle and Terry Lennon were tied after 9 holes resulting in a sudden death playoff. They headed back to the par 3 1st hole. Pat hit a fantastic tee shot but unfortunately caught the bunker. Terry hit short of the green with his tee shot and had a brilliant chip up to 2 foot short of the pin. Pat had an equally super shot out of the bunker but was unlucky not to hole the putt. Terry held his putt for par to win the 2014 President’s Prize. Well done Terry and all prizewinners!
