One of the most impactful lectures I attended late last year was one by Ustazah Nazeerah Shaik Alwie. She lectured based on Kitab Talim al-Mutaallim-Tariq at-Ta-allam by Shaykh Burhanuddin Az Zanurji. It teaches us on the adab (manners) of seeking knowledge. I got reminded of the kitab and her lecture so I looked all over for the notes and handouts frantically this morning. Ustazah went deep into several chapters and most of the attendees wished she could have covered more before she left Sg. I particularly like the chapter that talks about Respect vs Subject. We have to always respect any subject matter, as well as the subject matter expert. But this does not mean we should follow blindly. We should also refrain from saying bad things about a teacher but at the same time seek to always clarify our doubts by finding out through other resources and sources. Ask questions and have lots of sabr when seeking knowldege. Sabr is more than patience and can never be separated from a good student. And a good student learns from not just texts but from various scholars and through interactions with people, his/her closest kins, spouses and occurances. May we all see truth as truth, and falsehood as falsehood. #yetanothertimelyreminder #onlinelectureonthekitabplease #missingmysistersoffaithandustazahnazeerah
