One of the sorrier bits of Western progressivism was the Eugenics movement. Something for todays anti-immigrant screechers to think about: The Eugenics movement stirred both Canada and the United States into passing laws creating a hierarchy of nationalities, rating them from the most desirable Anglo-Saxon and Nordic peoples to the Chinese and Japanese immigrants, who were almost completely banned from entering the country. -- quite ironic, since we now recognize that Asian immigrants, including Japanese and Chinese, do very well on IQ tests - even better than the Nordic peoples. Yet, for many decades, they were excluded from America. Moral of the story: scientific knowledge of racial distinctions wasnt (and isnt) all that. Even more ironic, todays progressives demand that people of Asian descent must now check their privilege, as if this chapter had never happened.
