One of us is cryin’ as our hopes and dreams are led away in chains, And we’re left all alone; One of us is dyin’ as our love is slowly lowered in the grave, Oh and we’re left all alone. But for all of us who journey through the dark abyss of loneliness There comes a great announcement - we are never alone - For the maker of each heart that breaks, the giver of each breath we take Has come to earth and given hope it’s birth. CHORUS And our God is with us, Emmanuel. He’s come to save us, Emmanuel. And we will never face life alone Now that God has made Himself known, As Father and Friend, with us through the end, Emmanuel. He spoke with prophets’ voices and showed Himself in a cloud of fire, But no one had seen His face; Until the One Most Holy revealed to us His perfect heart’s desire, And left His rightful place; And in one glorious moment, all eternity was shaken, As God broke through the darkness that had kept us apart. And with love that conquers loneliness, and hope that fills all emptiness He came to earth to show our worth. (chorus) So rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel has come! And our God is with us, Emmanuel. He’s come to save us, Emmanuel. And we will never face life alone Now that God has made Himself known, As Father and Friend, with us through the end, Emmanuel. Our God is with us, Emmanuel! youtube/watch?v=bpVxQGcDgng Your Morning Prayer for Tuesday December 23. Have a blessed day The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together. Isaiah 40:5 Like the sun in the morning sky, the Saviour of the world will dawn; like rain upon the meadows, the Christ will come down upon us. Let us pray As we rejoice in the gift of this new day, so may the light of your presence, O God, set our hearts on fire with love for you; now and for ever. Father we come to you in the name of your Son Jesus our Redeemer, to offer you our worship, praise and thanksgiving. To you belong all power and glory. You are the source of all goodness. Let our worship bear witness to your peace and saving power. Through your Spirit may we ever rejoice in the abiding presence of our risen and ascended Lord. Amen Now it is time to awake out of sleep, for the night is far spent and the day is at hand. Now is our salvation nearer than when we first believed, for the night is far spent. Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness and put on the armour of light, for the day is at hand. Put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh, for the night is far spent and the day is at hand. The night has passed, and the day lies open before us; let us pray with one heart and mind. VENITE Psalm 95:1-8 O come let us sing to the Lord:* let us shout in triumph to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before His face with thanksgiving:* and cry out to Him joyfully in psalms. For the Lord is a great God:* and a great king above all gods. In His hands are the depths of the earth:* and the peaks of the mountains are His also. The sea is His and he made it;* His hands moulded dry land. Come let us worship and bow down;* and kneel before the Lord our maker. For He Himself is our God;* we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. If only you would hear His voice today;* for He comes, He comes to judge the earth: He shall judge the world with righteousness * and the people with His truth: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Lord we pray forgiveness for our sins. Have mercy on us most merciful Father; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so uphold us by your spirit that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honour and glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Set us free O God, from the bondage of sins and give us the liberty of that abundant life which you have made known to us in your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God, now and forever. Amen. PSALM66 Jubilate Deo 1 Be joyful in God, all you lands; * sing the glory of his Name; sing the glory of his praise. 2 Say to God, How awesome are your deeds! * because of your great strength your enemies cringe before you. 3 All the earth bows down before you, * sings to you, sings out your Name. 4 Come now and see the works of God, * how wonderful he is in his doing toward all people. 5 He turned the sea into dry land, so that they went through the water on foot, * and there we rejoiced in him. 6 In his might he rules for ever; his eyes keep watch over the nations; * let no rebel rise up against him. 7 Bless our God, you peoples; * make the voice of his praise to be heard; 8 Who holds our souls in life, * and will not allow our feet to slip. 9 For you, O God, have proved us; * you have tried us just as SILVER is tried. 10 You brought us into the snare; * you laid heavy burdens upon our backs. 11 You let enemies ride over our heads; we went through fire and water; * but you brought us out into a place of refreshment. 12 I will ENTER your house with burnt-offerings and will pay you my vows, * which I promised with my lips and spoke with my mouth when I was in trouble. 13 I will OFFER you sacrifices of fat beasts with the SMOKE of rams; * I will give you oxen and goats. 14 Come and listen, all you who fear God, * and I will tell you what he has done for me. 15 I called out to him with my mouth, * and his praise was on my tongue. 16 If I had found evil in my heart, * the Lord would not have heard me; 17 But in truth God has heard me; * he has attended to the voice of my prayer. 18 Blessed be God, who has not rejected my prayer, * nor withheld his love from me. Glory to the Father and to the Son: * and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning is now: * and shall be forever. Amen The Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 11:10-16 10 On that day the root of Jesse shall stand as a signal to the peoples; the nations shall inquire of him, and his dwelling shall be glorious. 11 On that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that is left of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Ethiopia, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea.12He will raise a signal for the nations, and will assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.13The jealousy of Ephraim shall depart, the hostility of Judah shall be cut off; Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah, and Judah shall not be hostile towards Ephraim. 14 But they shall swoop down on the backs of the Philistines in the west, together they shall plunder the people of the east. They shall put forth their hand against Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites shall obey them. 15And the LORD will utterly destroy the tongue of the sea of Egypt; and will wave his hand over the River with his scorching wind; and will split it into seven channels, and make a way to cross on foot; 16so there shall be a highway from Assyria for the remnant that is left of his people, as there was for Israel when they came up from the land of Egypt. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. THE BENEDICTUS Blessed are you, Lord God of Israel, * you have come to your people and set them free. You have raised up for us a mighty Saviour,* born of the house of your servant David.Through your holy prophets, you promised of oldto save us from our enemies,* from the hands of all who hate us,to show mercy to our forebears, * and to remember your holy covenant. This was the oath God swore to our father Abraham:* to set us free from the hands of our enemies, free to worship you without fear: * holy and righteous before you, all the days of our life. And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High:* for you will go before the Lord to prepare the way,to give God’s people the knowledge of salvation: * by the forgiveness of their sins. In the tender compassion of our God:* the dawn from on high shall break upon us,to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death: and to guide our feet into the way of peace. Glory to the Father and to the Son: and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning is now: and shall be forever. Amen. New Testament Reading: Revelation 20:11-21:8 Revelation 20 11Then I saw a great white throne and the one who sat on it; the earth and the heaven fled from his presence, and no place was found for them.12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, the book of life. And the dead were judged according to their works, as recorded in the books.13And the sea gave up the dead that were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and all were judged according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire; 15and anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 21 1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.2And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, See, the HOME of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; 4he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away. 5And the one who was seated on the throne said, See, I am making all things new. Also he said, Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.6Then he said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the OMEGA, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life.7Those who conquer will inherit these things, and I will be their God and they will be my children.8But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, the murderers, the fornicators, the sorcerers, the idolaters, and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. A SONG OF CHRIST’S GLORY PHILLIPIANS 2:5-11 Christ Jesus was in the form of God,* but he did not cling to equality with God. He emptied himself, taking the form of a servant and was born in the likeness of men. Being found in human form, he humbled Himself* and became obedient unto death, even death on the cross. Therefore god has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name above every name. That at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow:* in heaven and on earth: And every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord:* to the glory of God the Father. Glory to the Father and to the Son: and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning is now: and shall be forever. Amen. The Gospel: Luke 1:5-25 5 In the days of King Herod of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly order of Abijah. His wife was a descendant of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.6Both of them were righteous before God, living blamelessly according to all the commandments and regulations of the Lord. 7But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were getting on in years.8Once when he was serving as priest before God and his section was on duty.9he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to ENTER the sanctuary of the Lord and offer incense.10Now at the time of the incense offering, the whole assembly of the people was praying outside.11Then there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing at the right side of the altar of incense.12When Zechariah saw him, he was terrified; and fear overwhelmed him.13But the angel said to him, Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will name him John. 14You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. 15for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He must never drink wine or strong drink; even before his birth he will be filled with the Holy Spirit. 16He will turn many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. 17With the spirit and power of Elijah he will go before him, to turn the hearts of parents to their children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. 18Zechariah said to the angel, How will I know that this is so? For I am an old man, and my wife is getting on in years. 19The angel replied, I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. 20But now, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time, you will become mute, unable to speak, until the day these things occur. 21Meanwhile the people were waiting for Zechariah, and wondered at his delay in the sanctuary. 22When he did come out, he could not speak to them, and they realized that he had seen a vision in the sanctuary. He kept motioning to them and remained unable to speak.23When his time of service was ended, he went to his home.24After those days his wife Elizabeth conceived, and for five months she remained in seclusion. She said.25This is what the Lord has done for me when he looked favorably on me and took away the disgrace I have endured among my people. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
