One strategy that gets a lot of play these days is to offer a discount. Ive seen 10% off for new customers, 40% off a big order . . . and on and on. But do you really need to give up your earnings in order to attract more customers? Chances are if you simply told more people you were in business and gave them a brochure, youd get more customers without giving any discount! Giving a discount also trains your customers to expect a discount. It devalues your service and the products. If you feel the need to do something extra, why not try value adding instead? For example Free gift with every order and give a mini hand cream, trial size or deodorant -- a product they dont currently use so it will increase your sales down the road. Discounting is a slippery slope -- so just be aware. Its not necessary and it trains your customers to expect it from you. They wont want to buy at full price from you because they know you are willing to give up some of your profits.
