One video that keeps making its rounds on social media over and over again is the one with Reza Aslan lecturing two journalists. Please stop spreading it! Heres why: The message to stop generalization is of course important, but it doesnt ring true when Aslan makes claims that women in Indonesia and Turkey are absolutely free and 100% equal to men. No-one should make such categorical statements, especially when they are far from correct. Whats worse is that Aslan has shown an uglier side in his interactions with Sam Harris, for example making the unbased claim that atheists are fundamentalist (youtu.be/uNf0DHjx1kU), but also spreading a deliberate and dangerous misunderstanding about Harris (who already lives under constant death threats for his criticism of religion). Please read the attached article, and you will see that Aslan either doesnt realize what hes doing (in which case hes a generalizing idiot himself) or does it all on purpose (in which case he is a dishonest asshole).
