One year ago today I toed the line to my first ultramarathon event.... The Croatan 24 (a 24 hr 100 miler). The farthest I had ever run up till that point was 13.1 miles, but hey, I did extreme distance cycling and swimming and I was a Marine... 12 hrs later and 46 miles down I tapped out. My first DNF but I was good with that. So the last year I have been preparing. Today I toed that same line knowing I would get a DFN, knowing that I would only run 4-5 hours, and feeling ok with that. The reason... April 5, 2014 I was married, 6 days later my husband deployed to Afghanistan... A few months ago he informed me of his return time... After several delays and changes his return would ultimately fall on my race event... A few weeks ago people posted about DNF and DNS... I ran 20 miles in 3:57 and DNF.... But my prize, especially on this veterans day weekend is pretty dang awesome. Just thought I would share and wish much love and big cheers to all of you racers out there this weekend!
