One year ago today I woke up and was going about my normal morning routine. Suddenly I noticed a change in my vision. There was nothing in my eye, it didn’t hurt, but it wasn’t clearing up. I was concerned so I didn’t leave for work and waited until 8 and called and got in with the doctor immediately. I was sent directly to a retinal specialist in Hattiesburg. After several tests I was told I had suffered a stroke in my eye and it resulted in permanent vision loss for the middle portion of my eye. He said he had never seen this in anyone my age and sent me directly to the hospital with a list of labs and tests to be done. After a urinalysis I was told I was pregnant. What? Me? FEAR flooded my body. I NEVER, not once, wanted children. Suddenly I’m at the doctor’s office waiting to have an ultrasound. Still in panic mode of receiving this news I hear my name called. There she was! The most beautiful little being with a strong heartbeat. My fears took a turn. It was no longer about me and my eye. Was she ok? Would everything be ok? It was a long/stressful 9 months. Lots of doctors’ appointments with my OB, cardiologist, and hematologist. I had to give myself daily injections of blood thinners as a precaution to prevent her from clotting off from me. That was hard and painful and a lot of tears were shed. But on January 23 we were blessed with a healthy, beautiful baby girl. Through everything, God was always present and faithful. I never doubted Him and His plan for us. What had once been the biggest fear of my life turned out to be my greatest joy.
