One year ago today, we played our first show as a group at a cupcake shop in central Topeka. We were much too loud for the concrete and glass room and got paid in cupcakes, but around 100 of our closest friends and family came to check out our idea of a music project. (https://youtube/watch?v=NoTCA4Qq4Dk) In the year that’s happened since, we’ve played a total of 10 shows in 4 different cities and 2 states, establishing ourselves quite well in the Northeast Kansas music scene. We’ve made good friends with other bands, both from around the area and from further away, and gained a following on the internet. We have a full merch line, a website, and even an EP that is on the verge of being released. We’ve grown to be close friends with each other from all of the conversations and hard work that goes into all of the shows and recording and planning. Most importantly to us, the part that honestly brings us to tears sometimes, we get to watch your lips sing along to our songs at shows and read the articles and blogs you write about how the things we sing about have touched your own lives. None of this is meant to beat our own chest or to boast about the things we’ve accomplished. On the contrary, after a year of making music, we want to do two things: one – stand in awe and thanks for everything that has happened, because we know it is not by our own power that it has, and two – make sure you all know how huge of a part you have played and how much we appreciate you. When we needed a vehicle to get to our first out of town show because ours got wrecked, when we’ve needed artwork done, when we needed a place to practice, you all have stepped in to make it happen. When we needed recording done or photos taken, family members have helped us out with professional quality. EVERY SINGLE TOPEKA SHOW has had at least 100 of you people there, and there is no way to express our gratitude for that. From the bottom of our one-year-old hearts, thank you. Enormous things are already set in place for this next year, and we cannot tell you how excited we are to share them with you as they unfold and then a year from now, just like today, look back and say it’s just as much your story as it is ours.
