One year ago today, we were huddling in our house has Hurricane Sandy tore a path of destruction across New Jersey and and southern New York. You feel helpless as you listen to the winds tearing through the masses of tall oaks that have matured in my neighborhood over 50 years. You pray that you dont hear the loud crack of branches and tree trunks that could crash through the roof of the house. Its a totally helpless feeling. We were fortunate in that our only loss was our electricity for several days. But so many lost so much more. The devastation along the Jersey shore, the south shore of Long Island, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Is, and so many other places was devastating. Much has been repaired, but there is still so much more that needs to be done before people can move beyond the first anniversary of what we refer to by the simple name of Sandy.
