Ongoing destruction of unusual young forest on Staten Island. White oak (Quercus alba) was about 40-50 years old based on count of tree rings. Three more big box stores will be built here. As far as I know, no trees were transplanted or salvaged from this recently city-owned site, even though the Million Trees program of NYC Parks spends $1-2000 dollars per tree in their planting efforts.
