Open Call for Performance Projects 7th International Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art Pedvale Open-Air Art Museum June 19 – 23, 2014 Application Deadline: September 15, 2013 The 7th International Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art and the Pedvale Open-Air Art Museum are pleased to announce an open call for submission of performance projects. The conference is to be held at the Pedvale Open-Air Art Museum (Sabile, Latvia) from June 19 – 23; and all performances are to run in conjunction with the celebration of Mid-Summer on June 23. The theme of the conference, Coal.Essence: Iron forming Art, Ritual and Landscape, and the creative space of Pedvale Open-Air Art Museum support a unique opportunity for the creation of performance works. All performances will be choreographed into an overall event that will celebrate Mid-Summer’s eve. A variety of iron performances and fire performances will take place throughout the night, concluding with the sunrise on Mid-Summer’s day. The call is open to artists working within any field who have a keen interest or ability to work in a performative context. The festival of Mid-Summer is a celebration of the Sun and of fertility. Fire is used as the main medium to symbolize the presence of the Sun throughout the night and is a requirement in all performances submitted. In terms of ritual the artist may consider researching Pagan belief systems, primitive tribal ceremonies and consider the use of natural materials: wood, stone, wheat, etc. Scale and visibility should be considered in all submissions as the performance site is large and big crowds will be present during the Mid-Summer festival.. For iron performances a knowledge of the material would be beneficial. Eligibility Requirements: Please review all information carefully. Applicants who do not meet the following criteria will not be considered. • Artists must be registered participants in the 7th International Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art. • Selected artists must have personal medical insurance. • No late or incomplete applications will be accepted. Application Materials: All materials are accepted via email ONLY: [email protected] 1. Performance Proposal: A written description of the performance proposal. This should include a statement about interest and experience. 2. Proposal Image: A drawing, photographed maquette, or a digitally generated image of the proposed performance. One page only. 3. 4 Images: Recent work that supports your application. Images should be saved in JPEG format, no larger than 1920 x 1920 pixels, 1.8MB maximum file size per image. Images should be labeled with your name, and numbered 1 through 4, indicating your preferred viewing order. Ex. 01_SmithDavid.jpg. 4. Image Script: Included a numbered list that corresponds to the submitted images. For each image, include the title, date, materials, dimensions, and if necessary, a brief description of the work. One page only. 5. Current Resume or CV: In addition to your full name, address, telephone and email address, this document should include information about your education; exhibition history; awards and honors; grants and residencies; professional experience; and details of any published writings, reviews or catalogues about your work; and references. Two pages only. 6. Project Budget: Outline of project budget. Note: Budget should include cost estimates for material and production expenses. 7. Project Time Line: A brief description or calendar of the activities and process and the time in which they will be completed in advance of the performance event on June 23, 2014. 8.
