Operation Christmas Child, the largest Christmas project of its kind, is almost here. In fact, San Diegans are already packing simple gifts into shoeboxes that will bring joy to needy children in more than 100 countries around the world this year. A group of local volunteers will soon transform a warehouse at Foothills Christian Church in El Cajon into San Diego’s main collection center for Operation Christmas Child, and several additional collection sites throughout the county will open their doors during National Collection Week, Nov. 17-24, to receive an expected 35,000 gift-filled shoeboxes.
