#Opinion DONT JUST CRITISIZE AND COMPLAIN, CONTRIBUTE OR SUGGEST FOR SOLUTIONS By Louis Cherop Senator Harold Kipchumbas sentiments, without backing of specific facts pointing at the exclusion of persons with disabilities by Governor Chebois administration may as well be both insincere and false. They should not go unchallenged. And so we are clear, I am not about to play the devils advocate. But I will give the devil his dues. The good old Bens Government may not be perfect. But we must all realise that for now, its the administration legally in office and it is equally the duty of all citizens and leaders to be proactive in helping the Government to chart the way forward in taking care of interests of everyone. Kipchumbas nomination to the Senate, albeit briefly, places him firmly in the leadership circle and he cannot therefore feign ignorance or afford to hide behind the social media facade to play blame games. He shouldnt get away with adopting the moral high ground and go on a finger pointing spree. Has he, for example, written proposals, recommended actions, complained formally about his concerns? What is his personal contribution towards the betterment of lives of our beloved brothers and sisters with disability? By referring to previous personal utterances representing views by individuals who neither work for nor on behalf of Governor Chebois administration, Harold Kipchumba smacks of a person both reckless and hellbent towards painting Baringo County Government and the person of the Governor in bad light for reasons best known to him. As a leader, Kipchumba should not just make reference to policies he terms as inconsiderate to people with disability. He should go ahead and mention specifics. His stature places him in a position that he can can be able to sit with the County Management and discuss solutions to problems affecting not only the disabled in Baringo and the country, but also other socioeconomic challenges. For the interests of people living with disability to be mainstreamed and taken care of properly, Kipchumba should be at the forefront in engaging the County and National Government to ensure that not only are the constitutionally guaranteed rights of the disabled honoured and implemented, but also where possible, exceeded. For example Kipchumba should work with the Governments to ensure the 5% employment of PLWD threshold is not only adhered to but also that the PLWD funds reach the genuine beneficiaries and even for the establishment of special cottage industry facilities where our brothers and sisters can do business. Before any of us shift the blame, let us be armed with facts and our personal solid contribution towards the advancement of social causes. Otherwise we are robbed of the moral authority to blame anyone else. As to whether the Government must meet its constitutional obligations as outlined in law is not debatable. The County Government must raise to the occasion and offer leadership in addressing issues raised by PLWDs. But all citizens too must also be alive to their responsibility as anchored in, and placed on their shoulders by the same supreme law. Dont just complain and criticize. Make a suggestion. Do something. Contribute.
