Oriental Wedding Scenes of Oriental splendour mingled with fashionable Western toilets at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London, for the wedding recently of Mr. Shiu Hong Ma, son-: of a wealthy Chjnese store proprietor, and Miss Eebecca To. True to Chinese tradition, the bride and bridegroom ha.d been betrothed since infancy (writes a Londoner). Hundreds of Chinese were at the churehy-tho men wearing European morning dress and the women summer frocks. A number of women in native dress made a brilliant splashes of colour. They wore vivid blue satin tunics, heavily embroidered, and wide trousers. Their hair was elaborately dressed with ornaments and jewels. The brides gown was of ivory satin and Brussels lace with a headdress of orange blossom and pearls. The only Chinese feature was th 6 high collar. When the bride arrived, nearly half an hour late, with Dr. Lamb, who gave her away, police had to keep back the sightseers. There was a further short delay while the tiny page, Master Douglas York, in a white satin suit, had the long lace train arranged and the bride rearranged her bouquet of white roses. Then, as the Key. P. McCormick, who conducted the service, announced the hymn, the bride moved down the aisle, followed by her four bridesmaids—Miss Iris Frith, dressedin apricot taffeta with a bouquet of lemon roses; Miss Rosalind Wong and Miss Norma An, dressed in cyclamen-coloured georgette and white velvety with the Chinese high collar, and with bouquets of purple sweet peas; and Miss Joy York, a small attendant, in apricot satin. Th© service w.as that of the Church of B.ngland, omitting the.word,obey. Tw.o receptions were held. The one directly after the ceremony, was purely British. At the other, some time later, the -party assumed a more XDriental touch. The bride wore the official Chinese bridal gown, of red and black, heavily embroidered .in silver.. A separate-Chinese wedding cake. made of minced pork and sugar was distributed to every, guest. Evening Post, Volume CXIV, Issue 56, 3 September 1932, Page 9
