Our Sight and Sound trip didnt go as planned. Mikey hasnt been - TopicsExpress

Our Sight and Sound trip didnt go as planned. Mikey hasnt been himself since his seizure last week and yesterday he woke up with a headache. He felt so lousy that he didnt even want to go to Sight and Sound, but instead wanted me to take him to Hershey so they could, fix me up mom. Fearing a shunt malfunction, Mom and Dad and I loaded up to head to the ER. It was pouring rain, the traffic was terrible, and I ended up missing my exit. I finally just pulled into the CVS and something broke inside of me. I put my head on the steering wheel, started to sob and couldnt stop. I said, I just cant do this anymore. I am so tired. I then heard Mikey pipe up from the back seat and say, F-ing rain!! My tears instantly turned to laughter at his declaration and I thought to myself, if you think you are frustrated, think how Mikey feels. HE is the one who goes through the pain of surgery after surgery and he misses out on things right along with you.....and never complains. So Christina, dry your tears, put on your big girl panties, and deal with it!!! At that moment Pat pulled up alongside of me (a little surprised by my combined laughter and tears) and said, just follow me Honey. So off we went to the ER where they ran catscans to check the shunt and surprised us with an overnight stay. The thing about shunts is that they have pros and cons. The biggest pro being that it saves Mikeys life which outweighs anything else. The cons being that they do not respect holidays (we have spent 2 Christmases in the hospital), birthdays (Mikey and I have each celebrated one in the hospital) or any kind of special event (we have left a campground to head to the ER and of course there is the missed Sight and Sound) because they can stop working at any time. To make a long story short (too late lol) my mom, and Mikey and I spent the night at Hershey getting little sleep due to the constant beeping, screaming and fire alarm during the night. It turns out that the part of his shunt in his abdomen has shifted and may be just fine, but if he doesnt improve, his neurosurgeon will have to do exploratory surgery. On the bright side, we are home and we survived another hospital experience....together :)
