Our general meeting held on Saturday, Nov 29th as planned. The highlight of the agenda was the tabling of the new strategy that exco came up with after the exit of Aturu. The strategy is to hand over the prosecution of our matter to Barrister Emmanuel Ajayi, who is currently handling Okey Igwes case in the court. The lawyer will decide which strategy to adopt to solve our problem. The rationale for this is that it will save us the trouble of starting all over again with a new lawyer, who might take some time to come up to speed on the case. Barrister Ajayi has been on Okey Igwes matter for over 6 years and late Aturu told us that he stands a good chance of winning the case for him (Okey), whose early filing of same has saved his claim from being statute barred. The house was also informed that we will pay Ajayi the same amount (5% of the gross of our benefits) earlier approved by the house for late Aturu. In other words, it is costing us the same to use Ajayi as it would have cost us to use Aturu. Other details on how Barr Ajayi might choose to handle our matter were discussed at the meeting. We cannot go into them here for obvious reasons. The house approved this new approach upon a motion by Akin Rosiji from a Hallmark Bank, which was duly seconded by Bruce Hagan from Assurance Bank Members should note that Vincent Chuks Elelegwu and I were earlier authorized by exco to meet Ajayi and find out his preparedness to get us our benefits through any legitimate method(s) he chooses. We did as mandated and Ajayi assured us that he will give it his best shot. Short of becoming recklessly optimistic, the feedback I am already getting from the lawyer is that we are almost at the end of our struggle in a very positive sense! He, however, cautioned that we should hands off any case, newspaper publications or any other moves that may be interpreted as our trying to ridicule CBN and/or NDIC in the eye of the public. A word is enough for the wise! We dont want to win an argument and lose a friend! Members are strongly advised to take Ajayis advice in our general interest. With Christ in the boat of this long drawn struggle we will smile at the storm. Our foes can become friends, with Gods help. Should there be any contingent reason to call a general meeting, exco will do so pronto! Compliments of the season!
