Over the last 2 years, we have questioned the kids pediatrician - TopicsExpress

Over the last 2 years, we have questioned the kids pediatrician about why we had been so unsuccessful in getting Jeremiah potty trained and we were always told the same thing, dont force him, he will stop wearing diapers when he is ready, some kids wear a diaper one day and then just want underwear the next. This never occurred for us and knowing our time was dwindling because of school next year was getting frustrating. Finally a Physicians Assistant (PA) saw all the kids for flu shots and we asked the question again, this was this past Wednesday. We followed her instructions and since then, we had about 2 days where he was naked from the waist down and used the training toilet in his room when he was told and sometimes when he wasnt but all without any accidents on the floor. Yesterday, he was put into underwear and pants and, again, with remaining every once in awhile and him also doing on his own, we have had no accidents in the underwear for the last 2 days. I think tomorrow, or possibly Tuesday, we will start with having him go to the big toilet in the bathroom and using the training one in his room as backup for a day or two and see how this goes. I am proud of him and happy that he is finally doing this BUT, I am pretty upset with this doctors office. For 2 years, why could someone have not given us this advice, is this PA the ONLY person in the office who knows this technique or what? We possibly could have had him potty trained a year or two ago and had him in pre-school rather than sitting at home without that learning and social experience. On the bright side, I dont think we have anymore barriers to him starting Kindergarten on time next year.
