Over the past couple of days my feed has seen a steady stream of my friends slamming Governor Snyder for his failed policy of Right to Work. I try to keep politics on my political page and save this page for work: Detroit, economics, and criticizing Phil Coke. But, heres one where the two worlds collide, and I think its important to set my friends straight. The economic data is clear: Right to Work has not failed. It is designed to attract low cost, low wage jobs by reducing labor costs for employers. And, since governor Snyder signed it into law here, we have seen an uptick in low cost, low wage jobs. Unfortunately, that job growth has been slower than the national average. On the flip side, median household incomes in our state have continued to slide even as they have increased nationally since the recession. So RTW has not failed. It is indeed attracting the jobs it was designed to attract/create by reducing labor costs. Unfortunately, for most people, labor costs is synonymous with pay checks. RTW is accomplishing its mission of making us a poorer state. #Michississippi
