Over the past few weeks Ive been asking a lot of friends if they knew what TTIP is and to my surprise most have said no. It stands for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership which is a set of legislation being discussed IN SECRET between the US an UK. It is literally one of the greatest threats to British democracy and sovereignty in many, many years. It is going to hand even more power over to multi-national corporations and if it goes through, will hurt people, the environment and the real economy, even more. Its about privatising even more of the UKs services such as the NHS and lowering regulation on food safety and banking (groan). If you have never heard of it, I implore you to read this brief article from the Independent at least to be aware of it. We wont be offered the chance to vote on it but there are several petitions out there which are being presented to government in the near future. Your signature helps.
